Cop: “Can I help you?”
Frank: “I want to report a murder.”
Cop: “Where was this murder committed?”
Frank: “San Francisco, last night.”
Cop: “Who was murdered?”
Frank: “I was.”

I once saw a picture hidden away in a box that was old, faded and long forgotten. In the far away past, this meant something to somebody and those thoughts remain with the image..scribbled in the faded edges…

I will remember you every single day. You brought so much happiness to our lives and our home. You were my pal. You made us laugh and you made us happy with your amazing personality. You were the sweetest little floppy eared friend and i will remember you every single day that you are gone. We love you Fluffy..i miss you already

Sandro Botticelli is one of my very favorite artists. The Birth of Venus is one of my very favorite paintings and likely one of the greatest to come out of the Italian Renaissance. I consider it one of the great masterworks of art. I’m sure many others do as well.

It’s been something I have wanted to recreate for a very long time..and I say that with great admiration for its creator. I am not nor do I think I could best such a master artist, but i do feel that I can be inspired by his works and bring a little something new to my version..again with nothing but a true love of the original. I recently worked with the amazing Meluxine and it was during this collaboration I knew I’d get to shoot this image. After a year of planning, we spent the day shooting all sorts of my nonsense and she was at 200% the whole day.  She is a living muse, a powerful creature indeed. This is the result of that collaboration. Artist and Muse up to no good!

So..I present my version of The Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticelli! (click it for a larger version)

Being inspired is a groovy thing. Having images and ideas that seem stuck suddenly get jolted loose because you find yourself being dragged into a new creative mindset just by working with an inspiring subject is kinda amazing in itself. I am very lucky to have more than one muse in my universe.

The Muses in Greek mythology are the goddesses who fuel the artistic spark in mortals. There are certain people in the world who can inspire and provoke such creative and artistic inspirations in others that they are truly a Muse. I have been lucky to know a few and to be inspired by them…and this is one of them.

Going way back to the early 1900s I created a series of images based on early turn of the century circus style images. Hand colored and full of vintage goodness.

I just shot a series inspired by vintage bare knuckle boxing. Something totally different and new. Going back to the early 1900s and how brutal sports could be i created these to be as period correct as i could. Enjoy!

Shooting Mosh is nothing short of awesome. She is the real thing. Model. Artist. Burlesque Performer. Creative mind. She remains one of my very favorite people to shoot, the experience of working with her is just a joy. I am looking forward to working with her again that’s for sure.
